The United Church of Canada is the largest Protestant denomination in Canada. We minister to close to three million people in over 3,500 congregations across the country. Our history is closely entwined with the development of Canada itself.
The United Church was inaugurated on June 10, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario as the first union of churches in the world to cross historical denominational lines. Several other unions have enriched the United Church since 1925 and, recently, an ongoing dialogue with the Anglican Church of Canada has begun. These are the first formal talks between the two denominations since the end of the Plan of Union talks in the 1970s.
